Contrary to what the editorial indicates, in the 40-year history of the Clean Air Act, the EPA has never let the lights go out, and it is committed to upholding this record. Exelon Media Statement: EPA’s Clean Air Rules Can Be Implemented on Time

The electric utility industry can comply with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s clean air rules – the proposed Mercury and Air Toxics Rule and the final Cross-State Air Pollution Rule – while maintaining the reliability of the nation’s electricity grid, Exelon said today. “The rules have been in the works for about a decade, and the electric utility industry is well-positioned to respond, with more than 60 percent of coal-fired power plants already equipped with pollution controls,” said Joseph Dominguez, senior vice president of federal regulatory affairs, public policy and communications for Exelon.

I take issue with David Brooks’s Sept. 6 column, “Where the Jobs Aren’t.” Our recent report showed that $93 billion in Recovery Act green investments created or saved 997,000 jobs. The projects cut across the economy from advanced battery production to industrial efficiency projects that introduced combined heat and power to an Indiana steel mill; and from mass transit systems to energy-efficient buildings.

Constellation Buys Stake in Astrum Solar to Put Panels on Homes
{ Monday, June 27th }Bloomberg - Christopher Martin - 06-27-11. Constellation Energy Group Inc. (CEG), owner of Baltimore’s utility, bought a minority stake in closely held Astrum Solar Inc. to offer solar installation services to its 1 million retail power customers. Astrum is the largest residential solar installer on the East Coast and plans to build as many as 2,000 systems this year, Chief Executive Officer Vadim Polikov said in an interview.

EPA Delays Rules for Factory Boilers

The Environmental Protection Agency said Friday it would delay issuing final regulations aimed at cutting pollution from factory boilers until April 2012, amid pressure from industry groups and lawmakers. The EPA decision came just days after a top EPA official publicly touted the health and economic benefits of a separate but similar rule to control mercury emissions from aging coal-fired power plants.

Google, Soros Invest $25 Million in Energy Efficiency Company

Transphorm Inc. closed a $25 million round of financing from an investment fund managed by Soros Fund Management LLC and existing investors such as Google Inc. (GOOG) to fund its power waste reduction technology. Transphorm says its products reduce power waste by 90 percent and simplify the design and manufacturing of electrical devices such as motor drives, power supplies and inverters for solar panels and electric vehicles.
